Residents at Haslingden Hall in Rossendale enjoyed an indulgent dessert of sweet crepes on Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday. The beautiful crepes were wrapped up with strawberries inside and topped with sauces like honey, maple syrup and chocolate sauce, all served with a side of decadent vanilla ice cream. A pancake day to envy indeed!
The history behind pancake flipping is quite a funny story, which is about a woman who lost track of time while cooking pancakes on Shrove Tuesday back in 1445. She was meant to go to church that morning and decided to have some pancakes beforehand. She heard the church bells ring and rushed out the door, racing towards the church while still holding her hot frying pan. It’s unclear whether she accidentally flipped it while running or purposely flipped it to avoid burning the pancake!
